ABB ALSTOM POWER WORKERS TAKE WORKS COUNCIL CASE TO MEPS.

The effectiveness of the EU Works Council Directive (94/45/EC) in merger cases leaves much to be desired, said employee representatives from the multinational company ABB Alstom Power at the European Parliament on January 19. More than 20 worker representatives of the power generator multinational held talks with MEPs on the sidelines of the January 17-21 plenary session in Strasbourg. The workers are concerned that the merger in July 1999 of the Franco-British group Alstom and the Swiss-Swedish company Asea Brown Boveri will soon result in considerable job losses.
