AEA REPORTS RISE IN AIR TRAFFIC IN MAY 2000.

Statistics just published by the Association of European Airlines (AEA) show that European airlines saw a 10.7% rise in passenger numbers in May 2000 compared with the same month in 1999. This was a smaller rise than the figure for April 2000, which had grown by 12.7% compared with April 1999. Freight traffic grew by 6.6% in May 2000, sharp fall on the 13.1% rise recorded in April. As in the previous month but to a lesser extent, May's rise in passenger numbers clearly results from flights to and from the South Atlantic, which increased by 24.5%.
