AGREEMENT ON EXTENDED LIST OF APPROVED AMERICAN ABATTOIRS.

Acting on the satisfactory findings of the latest round of health and hygiene inspections in American meat plants approved for the purpose of exporting fresh meat to the Community, the European Commission authorised an amendment on March 23 to the list of approved slaughterhouses, cutting premises and coldstores in the United States. The list amended by the Decision covers 102 establishments authorised for the import of beef, sheep, pigs and goats, fresh meat or meat products from third countries. The Decision was taken in the light of the favourable Opinion adopted by the Standing Veterinary Committee on March 10, which concluded that routine inspections revealed the level of hygiene of certain American establishments to be satisfactory.
