Nicola Pesaresi is the Head of Unit at the Directorate-General for Competition of the European Commission, overseeing State aid in the energy sector. Previously, he managed cross-cutting policies and the level playing field in the Task Force for the UK negotiations under Article 50 TEU.

Before that, he led State aid policy, scrutiny, and coordination. Pesaresi joined the European Commission in 1999 after nine years in the Bank of Italy's banking supervision department. He holds a Master of Arts in Economics from Yale University and a degree in Economics and Social Sciences from Bocconi University. Born in Italy in 1963, Pesaresi's extensive experience in economic policy and financial regulation is notable.
