Abstract
e school year 1944-1945 must have been the most dicult school year aer the liberation of the
country from the invaders, not only in the Prefecture of Elbasan but in the whole country. is
school year in the Prefecture of Elbasan inherited a dicult situation in many educational aspects.
During the overcome of the years 1944-1945, schools were opened behindhand and this aected
the whole school year, especially in those places where schools were opened for the rst time,
which happened in most of villages.
A few pre-existing schools in cities during the years of invasion had done only few weeks of lessons,
which meant that students had to go in school with large gaps in the eld of knowledge. Other
factors which have obstructed the progress in educational institutions were: the lack of school
facilities, equipment, furniture and especially school books.
Moreover, the school year 1944-1945 in the Prefecture of Elbasan was involved in a violent winter,
which enforced schools to be closed for some time. On the other hand, student’s progress in school
was not in the expected level and many parents don’t ’end their children in school due to the bad
economic situation.
Teachers, in the begging of the rst school year aer war, work with no salary or with a minor
reward, which aects their work. Even some of them decide to abandon their profession for a
better one.

Introduction
Education is one of the basic human rights in the whole civilized world. As a consequence,
it is the duty of the state, educational institutions and the whole society to make knowledge
accessible through education for every person. Especially when it comes to pre-elementary
and elementary education which has to do with the beggining of the proccess of learning
and it is the rst link of a long and endless way in the eld of knowledge.
Moreover, through education every person becomes capable of improving his life and
contributes for the whole society. is means that during the school year 1944-1945 it
was necessary to open institutions of education in Elbasan Prefecture as well as in the
whole country, even though the country had been just liberated, even though there were
no school environment, school buildings, because those which existed were destroyed
from war. ey had no furniture and no equipment. But with the work and the sacrice of
teachers, with the overwhelming desire of children for education and with the support of
local educational institutions, state and the whole community, the school year 1944-1945
exceeded all the diculties and made the rst step in the eld of education aer World
War II in the Prefecture of Elbasan.
