Ensuring the transparency of media ownership, protecting journalists' sources and guaranteeing the independence of audiovisual regulators: these are some of the key points of the conclusions on media freedom and pluralism in the digital environment, adopted on 26 November by the EU Council, meeting in its culture and audiovisual configuration.

The 28 note that a "high level of media independence and pluralism is essential not only to democracy" but also contributes to "the strengthening of economic growth and to its sustainability".

The conclusions include recommendations to member states.
