BT-EUROPE CONTINENTAL TURNOVER UP 20% IN 98/99.

British Telecom (BT) has announced a 20% increase in turnover in continental Europe, through the various joint ventures in which it participates, to 1.2 billion pounds (Euro 1.86 billion) in 1998/99. BT has made a loss of 287 million pounds (Euro 445 million) on these activities, compared with an anticipated 310 million. The total turnover of these joint ventures amounted to 4 billion pounds (Euro 6.2 billion), 33% more that anticipated. They hold a combined 4% share of the market, a figure BT aims to increase to 9% by 2002/2003.
