*Employment flexibility and communication technologyA conference on the FLEXCOT (flexible work practices and communication) project will be held in Brussels on December 10. The conference will look at the challenges taken up by the public policies and on the prospects for creating socially acceptable flexible jobs. The main findings of the FLEXCOT project will be presented on the fringe of the invited speakers. These presentations will relate to a series of questions linked to the emergence of new forms of employment and work flexibility especially those associated to the introduction of communication technology. These presentations will pertain to the following fields: internal and external employment market, work hours, new rhythms of production, aptitudes and competencies, employment status and industrial relations. The conference is aimed at researchers, workers unions, and employers, politicians and training agencies. The key action will be part of a second call for proposals that should be published December 15 199. Furthermore the Commission is organising a series of demonstrations whose objective it a raise awareness with possible participants and to increase the number of proposals kept. The participants of the information days will assist presentations organised by Commission Civil servants and competent national and regional contact points. They will present the agenda and the opportunities which the soon to be launched call will bring, but they will also examine the lessons learnt from the first call.
