PositionCalendar of Events

Organised by the Council of European Municipalities and Regions, EISCO 2000 will focus on efficient management by local and regional government using ICT innovations. Due to be staged in Torremolinos, Spain, from March 29 to 31, the event is an initiative of the European local authorities' telematics network, supported by the European Commission and the Disputaci[cent]n Provincial de Malaga. The provisional conference agenda includes a number of case studies debates and speeches by experts on the theme of better use of innovative information and communication technologies by local and regional government in Europe. * Population security

The European Commission's Space Applications Institute (SAI) is to stage a workshop on March 23 and 24 on the theme of "Population Security - the role of Spatial Information", at the Ispra Joint Research Centre in Italy. The aim is to gather together interested participants to discuss proven applications that help address policy areas in this subject. The new SAI project on population dynamics and security will be presented alongside the activities of the MOLAND and Kosovo projects of the SSSA Unit of the Space Applications Institute. Once finalised, the workshop agenda will be available on the Centre for Earth Observation's website at: http://www.ceo.org/.
