*Prague hosts e-Business conference

A conference on e-Business (Internet and companies) and the e-Work (Internet and work) will take place from October 16 to 18 in the Czech capital Prague. This conference will show how emerging technologies generate research possibilities and new ideas. The conference will focus on the "new working methods and of e-commerce", the second key point of the IST programme (Information Society Programmes) of the Fifth Framework research programme. The conference will examine the most innovative developments in the field of the e-Work, e-Business and e-commerce. Individual sessions will look at various topics: convivial systems, regional and governmental developments, private and public applications, eEurope 2005, support for SMEs from the Sixth Framework programme, construction, environmental changes, and 'knowledge management'.

* Danish Presidency conference on patents

A conference organised by the Danish Presidency in Aalborg October 28 and 29

will tackle the questions relating to the patents in Europe. This conference will hear a suggestion from Denmark concerning the legal insurance that the companies can use to protect their patents. A report prepared by the European Commission and the proposal from the Danish government will be presented. Among the other topics under discussion are the role of the national offices of patent rights and the proposal Directive on software.
