* Conference on the European IT and telecoms market after enlargement

The fifth conference "From a vision to solutions" - on September 18-19 in Parnu, Estonia - will examine the new intense competition in information technology and telecommunication when the Baltic states join the European Union. Can the enlarging EU maintain its position or even improve it? Will the Baltic companies be considered attractive business partners and partners for joint projects? Jacques Lafitte, Policy Advisor, former Cabinet Member, EU Commission and Andrius Kubilius from the Lithuanian Parliament will focus in their presentations on these and other similar issues.

* Milan hosts "IST 2003"

'IST 2003: The opportunities ahead' will gather high-level decision-makers from the public sector, private industry and the world of research in the same place, tackling the same challenge: to improve the prosperity, security and quality of life for all Europeans through the development of a user-centric European Information Society. Major European strategic initiatives will be presented and debated: from IST research policies and the establishment of a European Research Area in the sector to the roll-out of broadband and mobile services and telecom deregulation. Other conference workshops will focus on identifying tomorrow's major technological trends and organizing the European research required to turn vision into reality. Finally, workshops focusing on investment issues will also be held by the organisers of the European Investment Forum, which will be held in Milan just before IST 2003 (note that EIF delegates get a discount on their IST 2003 registration).
