* Council of Ministers "Telecommunications" Session

The EUs ministers responsible for telecommunications will meet on November 20, 2003 in Brussels. The provisional agenda for the session (which is always susceptible to change), includes:

- Exchange of views on the situation in the electronic communications sector (3rd generation mobile communications, broadband, implementation of the new regulatory framework);

- Agreement on the proposal for a Regulation setting up a European Agency for Network Security;

- Conclusions on the Communication regarding the transition from analogue to digital television;

- Conclusions on open platforms;

- Conclusions on e-Government.

* Innovative technologies and materials applied to the protection of cultural heritage

A European conference devoted to innovative technologies and materials applied to the protection of cultural heritage and supported by the European Commission will be held on December 16 and 17 in Athens (Greece). The aim is to create a platform for the integration of research, industry and education in the field of protection of cultural heritage. The possible priorities in this field in the light of the 7th Framework Programme will also be discussed.

The debates will focus on the following areas:

- integrated assessment of the sensitivity of construction materials to corrosion factors;

- non-destructive techniques for assessing damage "in situ";

- design, implementation and assessment of compatible restoration materials;

- innovative techniques and materials for use in conservation;

- marketing, finance and research aspects in the conservation and restoration sectors.
