* Grid Projects Launch and Concertation

An event to launch two new Grid projects funded under the Information Society Technologies (IST) call of the 6th Framework-Programme (FP6) will take place in Brussels from September 15-17.

The first day will focus on presenting the new FP6 Grid Projects and their combined overall vision. The second and third days will focus on moving forward from FP5 to FP6 and will only be open to project participants from these two Grid Projects.

* Second mobile communications seminar: health, environment & society.

best practice exchanges between EU Member States

The European Commission in co-operation with the GSM Europe/GSM Association and the Mobile Manufacturers Forum (MMF) are organising the Second Mobile Communications Seminar on Health, Environment and Society, which will take place in Brussels from September 23-24.

The seminar aims to contribute to Europe-wide science-based public policy and regulation on health and electromagnetic fields (EMF) in order to ensure safety for everybody and improve public information. Best practices will be identified and Mr. Jan Figel, European Commissioner for Enterprise and Information Society, will deliver a keynote speech on the following themes:

- Responding to Public Concern through Regulations

- Public Health Priorities for Future Research

- The Future of Wireless Infrastructure

- Are we using the right tools to communicate to the public?

* Third epoline conference, in Salzburg

The European Patent Office has announced that the third annual epoline conference will be held on November 23 and 24 in Salzburg, Austria.

The event will feature hands on training for the epoline patent management system, seminars on the patent procedure, and presentations on a range of other intellectual property issues.

Sessions will feature representatives of industry and academia with a specialisation in intellectual property, and the event will be particularly relevant for patent lawyers, their administrative staff, and others involved in the protection of intellectual property.
