* Technology-enhanced learning information day - Luxembourg

In the context of the next call for proposals for projects in technology-enhanced learning, due to be launched in mid-November, an information day will take place in Luxembourg on November 29. The next call will address the strategic objectives defined in the updated version of the information society technologies (IST) work programme for 2005 to 2006.

In the field of technology-enhanced learning, the research focus will be on exploring interactions between the learning of the individual and that of an organisation, and on contributing to new understanding of learning processes by exploring links between human learning, cognition and technologies.

The information day will aim at building consensus on trends and challenges in future research on technology-enhanced learning, developing a better understanding of the sixth framework programme (FP6) instruments, sharing ideas and experiences, and finding partners for project consortia.

* Workshop on mobile computing - Lake District, UK

The sixth IEEE workshop on mobile computing systems and applications (WMCSA 2004) will take place on December 2 and 3 in the Lake District, UK. The organisers have announced an open call for papers for the event.

Submissions are invited that concentrate primarily on applications, systems and environments, however, papers on lower level technologies are also welcome if they focus on how the technology is being used or integrated into a system or application.

The following topics are of particular interest:

- operating system and distributed systems support for mobile and pervasive computing;

- novel applications and environments for mobile and pervasive computing;

- co-ordination, aggregation, and spontaneous interaction of devices and applications;

- security and privacy in mobile and pervasive systems;

- management, ease of use, availability and complexity in mobile and pervasive systems;

- other challenges unique to or exacerbated by mobility and pervasive computing.
