CIVIL PROTECTION : COMMISSION ADOPTS WORK PROGRAMME AND 2008 BUDGET.

The European Commission decided, on 20 December 2007, on the work programme and the budget, as well as the implementation rules, of the Community mechanism for civil protection for 2008.

Decision C(2007)6472 obtains a budget of 24,590,000, divided into three sections: 700,000 under the financial instrument for civil protection (administrative management - budget heading 07 01 04 02); 17,890,000 under the financial instrument for civil protection and the Community mechanism for civil protection (budget heading 07 04 01); and 6,000,000 to the benefit of civil protection interventions in non-EU countries (budget heading 19 06 05).

The annual work programme, adjoined to this decision, has the goal of supporting and complementing the efforts deployed in member states to guarantee the protection of people, as well as the environment and goods (cultural heritage), in case of natural disasters or those caused by man, terrorist acts...
