COMMISSION GRANTS EURO 3.3 MILLIONS FOR 292 CULTURAL PROJECTS.
Marcelino Oreja, European Commissioner for culture, has listed the 292 cultural projects which will receive EU financial support totalling Euro 3.3 million under the ARIANE programme for 1998, the European Commission announced on January 7. Homing in on translation, promoting books and reading, the ARIANE programme takes the form of three types of action:
- translation of high-quality 20th century literary works, theatrical works and reference books and studies in the cultural sector
- cooperation projects designed to improve public access to books and reading
- training projects for professionals.
