Fuelled by the mushrooming trade in consultancy and technical sub-contracting, part-time contracts within the European Commission over the last decade have almost doubled, according to Commission Vice-President, Neil Kinnock. In his reply to a written question from MEP Christopher Huhne (ELDR, UK) on the subject of Commission employee numbers, Mr Kinnock said part-time staff numbers had risen from 515 at the end of 1991 to 1,074 at the end of last year.Commission full-time employee numbers have stabilised around the 19,000 mark, up from 15,542 at the end of 1991.
