How to implement a common European policy on clusters(1)? Eurochambres, together with its French counterpart and the local chamber of commerce from the region Nice-Cote-d'Azur, gave their part of the answer by presenting "five proposals for a common EU policy on clusters" at the fourth annual Competitive Clusters Forum, on 13 and 14 November in Sophia Antipolis, France.

Eurochambres, the Association of European Chambers of Commerce and Industry, together with the French Chamber of Commerce, ACFCI, and the Nice-Cote-d'Azur Chamber, came up with five different ideas that would, according to them, help the clusters in the EU.

Firstly, they state that since the success of clusters depends on the success of businesses, the needs of businesses must be identified from the very first stage. Furthermore, small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) must be "at the heart of the clusters," they say. Measures should be implemented to make it easier for SMEs to cooperate. As a result, they would participate in clusters.
