ECONOMIC POLICY : MEPS WANT "CREDIBLE FUNDING FRAMEWORK" FOR 2020 STRATEGY.

The European Parliament has issued a resolution bemoaning the "weak governance" of the bloc's ten-year growth and jobs strategy, and says its targets and aims may be too "general". In a motion for a resolution on the Europe 2020' strategy, signed on 17 February, a cross-party group of MEPs calls on the Council to cede control of the strategy to the Commission, and calls on the EU executive to produce a "credible funding framework" for it. "The Europe 2020' actions are of crucial importance to the future prospects of all European citizens, delivering sustainable jobs, long-term economic growth and social progress," the resolution says. The Parliament says that the strategy needs to be be fully funded, and has reiterated calls for a new EU tax or own resources' to boost the bloc's budget.
