Domestic violence: Case of Kosovo

Abstract
Nowadays, domestic violence is present in all countries and is having bad impact in the family
development. In this manuscript we will analyze the domestic violence in Kosovo. Cases of
domestic violence a er the war in Kosovo from year to year have increased and given its
consequences not only for the family, but also for the society, which imposes the need for a
research. There are many factors that a ect social life, domestic violence is one of them that
is having a very bad impact and in this paper it will be analyzed the number of cases and
also the factors that are causing the domestic violence in Kosovo. To analyze the situation
of domestic violence in Kosovo we have used primary and secondary data. Based on results
domestic violence is present in females at around 81% and males around 19%. The treatment
of domestic violence is even worse in the urban areas. This paper can also serve as a su cient
reference for future research in measuring economic growth and development pace of the
country.

Introduction
Domestic violence is not a new phenomenon, formal commitment and treatment to
this phenomenon. Domestic violence is classi ed as a criminal o ense in Kosovo.
Incriminating this phenomenon in the family as a criminal o ense also represents an
achievement of domestic legislation in harmony with international legal norms.
Domestic violence is present and growing in the contemporary world, both in the
Balkan region and beyond. Unfortunately, this phenomenon is also present in Kosovo.
The referral of cases of domestic violence a er the Kosovo war from year to year has
increased and given its consequences not only for the family, but also for the society
imposes the need for research.
Initially, in the rst years a er the Kosovo war to address the phenomenon of domestic
violence, more international NGOs have been engaged in cooperation with local
ones. All this commitment represents an important role but not su cient and does
not completely address domestic violence. The treatment was done partly by being
limited to certain regions, where local NGOs were more active and more willing to
engage in this process. It has o en been given priority to urban areas, leaving many
rural se lements apart. It should be noted that the activity of NGOs was mainly
aware-oriented, with the exception of some NGOs that were directly involved in
dealing with victims of violence.
There have been some more super cial researches in Kosovo to see the number
of cases of violence referred to the responsible institutions, but not to a scienti c
level. Main purpose of this research project is to identify, detect the causes of this
