Demand for Olive Oil in Albania

Abstract

Consumption of olive oil has increased signicantly in recent years by the Albanian consumer.

This increase has aected the increase of olive production and processing in olive oil. The olive

production and processing sectors in olive oil have increased signicantly recently as they are

seen as quite protable sectors.

The government has also recently turned its aention away from these sectors by supporting

them through various subsidies. The problems that exist along all the chains of the production

and processing sector are numerous, but both of these sectors have shown an increasing trend

in their production. In the increase of production in the above mentioned sectors, the increase

of consumption by our consumer for olives and olive oil has had a great impact.

This study focuses on the behavior that shows the consumer for the consumption of olive

oil, certainly inuenced by the determinants of demand such as: consumer income, their

preferences, gender, their expectations, the impact of substitute and complementary goods,

etc. factors which give dierent eects to dierent consumers.

Informing the consumer from various sources, on the nutritional values of olive oil, has aected

the increase of its consumption, but not all consumers can consume in large quantities. In

this topic are analyzed some of the main factors that inuence the decision to buy from the

consumers selected in this study.

The overview provided by this study on consumer behavior for the consumption of olive

oil, also aims to meet the objectives of this study which are met by the use of primary and

secondary sources. The interviews conducted directly with our customer, constitute the basis

of primary information used in this study. The information provided directly through the

consumer survey (for the built questionnaire), has been processed through statistical methods

and accompanied by detailed interpretations and economic analysis, which have highlighted

the behavior of our consumer for the consumption of olive oil.

Introduction

In recent years there has been an increase in demand for olive oil consumption.

However, although consumers have expressed preference for this product, it has

been noticed that some consume more and some less. There are even cases when

consumption is zero.

Through this topic we will try to determine what are some of the factors that aect

consumer demand for this product. Will we try to answer the question why dierent

consumers show dierent preferences? What factors inuence the decision to buy?

So we will try to analyze some factors that directly aect consumer behavior, ie that

inuence the decision to buy.
