EDUCATION INTERNET: SCHOOLS ON-LINE INCREASE.

Prior to the launch of an action plan by the German federal government, in partnership with Deutsche Telekom, Germany showed poor performance with respect to the number of schools connected to the Internet. Three years ago, only 15% of schools were connected to the web. Now, almost 35,000 schools are, and the last secondary school was connected in October of this year. Supplementary training is required for teachers, however: one year ago, only 13% of German secondary school teachers felt that they had a good grasp of the Internet, versus 53% in the United States.The United Kingdom now shows results comparable to those in Germany. According to UK Prime Minister Tony Blair, 96% of primary schools are now connected to the Internet. Among recent initiatives can be cited the adoption of a plan to promote computers in schools ("Computers for Teachers"). British primary schools now have one computer for every 11.8 pupils...
