Hourly labour costs in the eurozone rose by 1% in the year up to the third quarter of 2013, compared with +1.1% for the second quarter of 2013. In the EU28, the annual rise was also 1% up to the third quarter of 2013, compared with +1.1% in the previous quarter, Eurostat reported, on 17 December 2013.

The two main components of labour costs are wages and salaries and non-wage costs. In the eurozone, wages and salaries per hour worked grew by 1.3% and the non-wage component by 0.4% in the year up to the third quarter of 2013, compared with +1.4% and +0.3%, respectively, for the previous quarter. In the EU28, hourly wages and salaries rose by 1.2% and the non-wage component by 0.3% in the year up to the third quarter of 2013, compared with +1.3% and +0.5%, respectively, for the second quarter of 2013.
