ENVIRONMENT : COMMISSION CONSULTS ON RESOURCE USE ROAD MAP.

By next summer, the European Commission intends to present a road map on efficient use of natural resources in the European economy. On 25 February, it launched a consultation on policy options in this area. It addresses three issues: general views on resource use, scarcities, current obstacles and major areas of concern; policy areas that could be included in the road map; and options for encouraging individual shifts of behaviour. The views of public authorities, the private sector, environmental stakeholders and citizens interested in environmental issues are sought on 22 questions.

The road map is one of the initiatives announced in the communication of 26 January, 'A resource-efficient Europe', as part of the 'Europe 2020' strategy (see Europolitics 4128).
