EP LAUNCHES ELECTION SITE.

The European Parliament launched, on 19 January, on its website, a special section for the 2009 elections, accessible at the address www.europarl.europa.eu/elections2009/default.htm?language=en. Even though the campaign for the European elections, scheduled for 4-7 June, will mainly take place in the member states, the Parliament as an institution also intends to participate in the debate, but in a non-partisan and neutral way. Its goal, above all, remains to increase voter turnout, which has continued to fall since the first elections by universal suffrage in 1979, and which is shaping up to be very low once more.
