Regarding research and development activities, the principal change proposed is the creation of 27 new posts on staff books for research and technological development not included in the letter of amendment to the 2000 Budget, which demanded 400 new posts for Commission activities other than research.Proposed changes in respect of the European Anti-Fraud Office aim to establish the right balance between permanent and temporary posts within the new Office, in accordance with the Commission's July 2000 Communication on a strategy for protecting the Community's financial interests by combating fraud, and the European Parliament's Resolution of 16 May 2000 (see European Report No 2502 and 2512 for further details). The OLAF proposals, tabled in February 2001 and approved by the Monitoring Committee on 30 March 2001, should permit the Parliament to release the 76 posts endorsed in the 2001 Budget, thus enabling the Office to implement its new policy regarding human resources for investigative duties.The demands presented by the Economic and Social Committee and the Committee of the Regions concern the renovation of the Belliard building and the agreement between the institutions and the European...
