EU BUDGET: COMMISSION PLANS FURTHER STAFF ALLOCATIONS FOR JRC AND OLAF.

Regarding research and development activities, the principal change proposed is the creation of 27 new posts on staff books for research and technological development not included in the letter of amendment to the 2000 Budget, which demanded 400 new posts for Commission activities other than research.Proposed changes in respect of the European Anti-Fraud Office aim to establish the right balance between permanent and temporary posts within the new Office, in accordance with the Commission's July 2000 Communication on a strategy for protecting the Community's financial interests by combating fraud, and the European Parliament's Resolution of 16 May 2000 (see European Report No 2502 and 2512 for further details).
