EU/TURKEY : NEW SCIENTIFIC COOPERATION BETWEEN EU AND ANKARA.

The European Commission's Joint Research Centre (JRC) and the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TUBITAK) have decided to cooperate in a number of fields, including the environment and transport. The forthcoming signature of a memorandum of understanding between the two institutes was announced at a meeting in the context of the high-level dialogue on scientific cooperation between the EU and Turkey, held on 28 February in Istanbul, which included the participation of the JRC's Deputy Director-General Vladimir Sucha and TUBITAK President Yucel Altunbasak.

Cooperation between the two institutes is expected to focus on the following areas: energy and clean transport, environment and climate change, agriculture and food security, health and consumer protection, information society and cyber security, and crisis and hazard management.
