EUREKA LAUNCHES TWO NEW ELECTRONICS SECTOR PROJECTS.

PIDEA, the Eureka programme on the development of new electronic component assembly and interconnection technologies, has launched two new projects in the area of professional communications and smart cards. The UMANISTA project (universal module augmenting the integration of secure telecommunications applications) aims to improve high-frequency RF technologies for professional radiocommunications in future mobile terminals and base stations. Partners from five European countries led by EADS' Defence and Security Networks, will participate in the project.Meanwhile, the ACSIP project (active silicon protection) will improve the level of security of smart cards by developing the material protection of integrated circuits against all forms of invasive, chemical, physical or energy attack.
