EUROPEAN COMMISSION: NEW DEPUTY DIRECTORS-GENERAL IN DG AGRICULTURE.

As the authority invested with the power to make appointments, the European Commission decided on November 19 to appoint Fabrizio Barbaso and Dirk Ahner Deputy Directors-General in DG Agriculture. Mr Barbaso, who is of Italian nationality, will have responsibility for Institutional Relationships, Communication and Quality, Markets for Plants and Animal Products as well as Specialised Crops, Vineyards and Wine products. Mr Ahner, who is of German nationality, will be responsible for Rural Development Programmes, Horizontal Rural Development Questions and the SAPARD programmes as well as Economic Analysis and Evaluation.
