The European information and Communications technology (ICT) market posted record growth in 1999, according to a study by the European Information Technologies Observatory (EITO). Turnover in the sector in Western Europe increased by 12%, far in excess of the global growth rate of 9.3% and the rates for Japan (3.3%) and America (8.1%). The European ICT market represents 31% of a global market estimated to be worth Euro 1,593 billion. The United States holds a 35% share of the market and Japan 11%.
