EUROPEAN RESEARCH COUNCIL : ERC GRANTS TO HELP BRING RESEARCH RESULTS TO MARKET.

On 5 February, the European Research Council (ERC) announced that it will provide grants for top-level researchers to help them "bridge the gap between their research and marketable innovation". These grants, worth 150,000 each, will go to 27 researchers across ten countries in the European Research Area (ERA - EU member states plus countries associated to the research framework programme). The call is part of the ERC's top-up funding scheme Proof of concept'.

The projects cover a wide range of topics, such as innovative drug therapies and new biomaterials, as well as developing greener and cheaper industrial chemical substances. Proof of concept' funding can cover activities related to, for instance, intellectual property rights, investigation of commercial and business opportunities or technical validation.
