FOOD SAFETY : PROPOSALS ON ANIMAL FOODSTUFF INGREDIENTS IN THE OFFING.

Taking advantage of the complete revision of the legislation on the labelling of foodstuffs, which is to take place during the course of 2007, EU Health and Consumer Protection Commissioner Markos Kyprianou is preparing to present some new proposals to improve the labelling of ingredients.

The process of making animal food traceable has been found to be satisfactory but the European Commission is expected to draft a legislative proposal in autumn 2007 designed to simplify the regulation governing the labelling of composite foodstuffs. This was revealed in a report published at the end of December on the circulation of composite animal feed and in particular on the application of the directive on this issue.
