FOUNDATION TO AID EUROPEAN DIGITAL LIBRARY PROJECT.
The European Commission announced on 28 November that with its High Level Group on the European Digital Library, it had established a foundation to lead this project to fruition. The foundation brings together several European associations representing libraries, archives, audiovisual archives and museums. A prototype of the European Digital Library could be launched in November 2008. It will give direct access to at least two million digital books, photographs, maps, archival records and film material from Europe's libraries, archives and museums.
