A European professional card for service providers should facilitate the temporary exercise of their profession in the EU, according to an own-initiative report by Charlotte Cederschiold (EPP-ED, Sweden), adopted on 19 February in Brussels by the European Parliament. This sort of professional passport would make it possible to overcome the obstacles still faced by member states with regard to the free movement of service providers. Despite a directive implemented in 2007 (2005/36/EC), the recognition of professional qualifications is still often used as an excuse.

Parliament calls on the European Commission to examine this solution and evaluate its advantages: consumer information, citizen security, administrative simplification and verification of a cross-border career, among others.
