Mobile phones, antennas or pylons - are electromagnetic waves harmful to health? The Scientific Committee on Emerging and Newly Identified Health Risks (SCENIHR) has launched a new consultation on this controversial issue, which will be completed on 16 April. A hearing will allow concerned parties to give their scientific opinion on 27 March in Athens, Greece.

The scientific committee already gave a cautious and discreet preliminary opinion last December on the potential health effects of exposure to electromagnetic fields (EMF). The committee would like to now complete its scientific information, where important knowledge gaps were identified. Experts also hope to zone in on "biophysical interaction mechanisms" and "the potential role of co-exposures to other environmental agents".
