HUMAN RIGHTS: COMMUNITY FUNDING FOR WAR CRIMES TRIBUNALS.

The European Commission approved two key human rights projects on December 15. The first, worth ECU 390,000, will provide "objective and impartial" information on the proceedings of the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda in three local languages as well as English and French. The media in the region can use the proceedings as an objective information source. Civil strife in the region is characterised by the widespread use of rumour-mongering and propaganda, often inciting violence among the people of the Great Lakes of Africa.
