INTERNET : COMMISSION EXTENDS REVIEW OF POLISH IP TRAFFIC EXCHANGE MEASURE.

The European Commission has "serious doubts" about the validity of a Polish measure to regulate the exchange of Internet Protocol (IP) traffic between telecoms operators. It sent a letter along these lines to the Polish regulator (UKE), on 5 January, announcing that it plans to take another two months to review the measure.

"This is the first time that a European regulator considers IP traffic exchange as non-competitive and that regulation is proposed. This is therefore a complex precedent case, which requires thorough, in-depth analysis and strong supporting evidence," commented Information Society Commissioner Viviane Reding.
