French Socialist Michel Delebarre looks set to replace Peter Straub (EPP-ED, Germany) as President of the EU's Committee of the Regions (CoR). The election will be staged on February 16 at a plenary session in Brussels. Mr Delebarre was designated as the PES group's candidate in November. Under the terms of an agreement between the two leading political groups in the CoR - the PES and the EPP - he will hold the post for two years before leaving his place to the Committee's (future) EPP Vice-President for a further period of two years.
