NEW DANISH JUDGE AND BRITISH ADVOCATE-GENERAL APPOINTED TO EU COURT.

The European Court of Justice has officially appointed a new Danish judge and a new British advocate-general. At a formal sitting on January 10, the Court confirmed Danish citizen Lars Bay Larsen as judge, replacing Claus Christian Gulmann who had served in that function since 1994. It also appointed the UK's Eleanor V.E. Sharpston to replace Francis Geoffrey Jacobs as advocate-general.

Mr Larsen, born in 1953, was Head of the Police Department at the Ministry of Justice in Denmark from 1995 to 1999 and Head of the Law Department from 2000 to 2003. He has been a judge at the Danish supreme court, the Hojesteret, since 2003.
