PIEBALGS VISITS DUTCH GASIFICATION POWER PLANT.

On 7 January, Energy Commissioner Andris Piebalgs visited Nuon's gasification power plant in Buggenum, in south-east Netherlands. The Buggenum plant, in addition to coal, co-fires biomass, thereby claiming a CO2 reduction of 300,000 tonnes or emissions equivalent to 200,000 cars. Nuon is developing the 1,200 megawatt multi-fuel plant Nuon Magnum. The company also plans to install carbon capture and storage technology to minimise the carbon emissions from coal firing.
