The Union of Industrial and Employers' Confederations of Europe (UNICE) was quick off the mark to welcome the European Commission's 4 April Communication on the posting of workers abroad, 'which describes which national control measures are accepted by existing European jurisprudence and highlights the need for member states to improve information and step up their administrative cooperation'.

The European Trade UnionaConfederation (ETUC), on the other hand, was somewhat less enthusiastic. It feels that the Commission has not fully taken into account the concerns expressed by MEPs and union organisations and 'demands that the document will be reviewed on theabasis of proper consultation of the Social Partners and the EuropeanaParliament'.
