Members of the European Parliament's Committee on the Internal Market and Consumer Protection (IMCO) are nearly unanimous in their support for the EU executive's proposal on the directive on recognition of professional qualifications, presented on 19 December 2011. Their positive reaction is no surprise, since the proposal contains many of the requests made by Parliament in its resolution on the report by Emma McClarkin (ECR, UK), adopted on 16 November.

The proposal, one of the 12 priority actions of the Single Market Act, aims to modernise Directive 2005/36/EC on recognition of professional qualifications to facilitate citizens' mobility in the EU and reduce discrimination. Rapporteur Bernadette Vergnaud (S&D, France) praised the "boldness and courage of the Commission, which aims to increase legal certainty for citizens who wish to move in the EU for professional reasons".
