Abstract

e present or represents an aempt to present and criticall examine te development of

ustrian foreign trade from 15 to 183 in te context of te economic, but also to some extent

also te political situation of te postar period. It is also important to tr to understand te

times from toda’s perspective, as te circumstances of toda can ardl be compared it

tose of te 150s and 160s.

e aim of tis or is to aempt to give an introduction to te teor and politics of ustrian

foreign trade that is as understandable as possible. Central basic concepts of foreign trade

theory should be explained, the empirical development of Austrian foreign trade presented,

the areas and institutions of trade policy, foreign trade regime, export subsidies, structural

analsis, te economic eects of estern uropean integration and eastard expansion on

ustria and, nall, ustrian trade it te east.

of Austria as an internationally important trading partner. In 1956 the federal government
