Siemens is looking to dismantle its troubled telephony division (Com), selling activities or integrating them into joint ventures, according to reports in Germany's Manager-Magazin, which caused the group's share price to rise on February 15. A spokesperson for the Bavarian conglomerate merely indicated that "everybody speaks with everybody" in the sector, that "the market is evolving" and within this context, that Siemens "is also considering strategic partnerships".

Manager-Magazin, which claims to have secured its information from unidentified Directors of the German group, points to recent discussions with Nokia on the creation of a joint venture on fixed and mobile telephony networks. Negotiations apparently failed because the Finnish equipment manufacturer was only interested in mobile telephony networks which alone are financially viable.
