HELP AND SUPPORT FOR RETURN MIGRANTS FROM THE
WARMILSKO-MAZURSKIE VOIVODSHIP
CO-FINANCED BY EU RESOURCES
Introduction
It has been observed that the outflow of inhabitants from the
WarmiMsko-Mazurskie Voivodship is quite high in comparison to their
significantly lower inflow. Various types of migration movements,
including an intensification of migration to the EU countries, have
increased after Poland became an EU Member State. In recent years, due
to the economic crisis in Western Europe, we have been observing waves
of returns. These are not mass returns. Nevertheless, the group of return
migrants needs help and support programmes that should be focused on
those people who want to come back to the country, and on programmes
that would encourage them to do this or support the groups of people who
have already returned and who want to use their potential in the local
labour market. It is well known that migration and return may lead to
various psychological and social problems such as:
getting stuck in the migration loop and abeyance between the two
countries;
frus tration connected with doing work below one’s qualifications and
having to resign from various things abroad on the one hand, and then,
on the other, with the necessity to accept much lower remuneration in
Poland while aspirations have become higher than before the migration;
the necessity to reconstruct those families divided by the migration
and rebuild relationships within them;
the necessity to reconstruct the relations with the local entourage;
the necessity to find a job in the market in Poland or in the home
region;
other problems connected with adaptation and adjustment after return
from migration1.
