TELECOMMUNICATIONS/BELGIUM: PORTABILITY OF MOBILE NUMBERS TO BE APPLIED FROM OCTOBER 1.
Belgium's Telecommunications Ministry announced on September 10 that mobile telephony subscribers in Belgium will be able from October 1, 2002 to retain their telephone number when changing operator. In order to guarantee the "transparency" of the system, mobile telephone users "will hear a tone before a connection is established with a network other than their own", according to the statement issued by the Telecommunications Ministry.
