Switzerland's Communications Commission (ComCom) has relaxed its conditions for the launch of the third generation telephone system UMTS in view of equipment delays, according to a press release dated June 27. UMTS had been expected to be operational by the end of the year, but ComCom has decided to withdraw the obligation on operators to offer 20% coverage of the population by the end of 2002. The four operators with UMTS licences in Switzerland are Orange, Sunrise, Swisscom and Telefonica Mobiles. They are henceforth free to choose for themselves...
