TELEFONICA MOVILES TO PAY EURO 40 MILLION FINE TO AMENA.

The Spanish mobile telephony operator Telefonica Moviles is expected to pay a fine of euro 40 million to its Spanish competitor, Amena (France Telecom) for failure to respect the jointly negotiated interconnection rates, was revealed earlier this year. The fine was imposed by the Telecommunications Market Commission (CMT) responsible for setting maximum prices when one operator uses a competitor's infrastructure during a call. A spokesman for Telefonica Moviles has confirmed that will seek a suspension of the decision, arguing that the negotiations with Amena concerned only the interconnection prices paid to Amena.
