TELIA DENOUNCES UMTS ERROR BY SWEDISH ADMINISTRATION.

The Swedish telecommunications company Telia confirmed on 28 December that it had been deprived of a UMTS third-generation mobile telephony licence in Sweden by a calculating error by the Postal and Telecommunications Services (PTS) Administration. Telia has issued a statement denouncing the incompetence of PTS officials. Telia challenges the figure of 12,000 relays deemed necessary by the PTS to ensure full coverage of Sweden which has many areas of low population density. The operator had argued that the networking of relays increases their transmission capacity three-fold.
