The eurozone seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was 10.1% in October 2010, compared with 10.0% in September (9.9% in October 2009). The EU27 unemployment rate was 9.6% in October 2010, unchanged compared with September (9.4% in October 2009), indicated Eurostat, on 30 November.

According to Eurostat estimates, 23.151 million men and women in the EU27, of whom 15.947 million were in the eurozone, were unemployed in October 2010. Compared with September, the number of persons unemployed increased by 84,000 in the EU27 and by 80,000 in the eurozone. Compared with October 2009, unemployment rose by 0.590 million in the EU27 and by 0.402 million in the eurozone.

Compared with a year ago, the unemployment rate fell in eight member states and increased in nineteen. The largest falls were observed in Germany, Malta, Sweden and Finland. The highest increases were registered in Lithuania, Greece and Latvia.
